An independent guide to Vancouver Bars, Lounges, Nightclubs and Events

Vancouver’s Best Live Music Bars

photo

Want to see some live music? Vancouver has a great local music scene and more and more venues are offering live music – especially, over the past couple of years. I think this is one of the more exciting shifts we’re seeing in the Vancouver bar scene today! Right now, several bars are dedicating nights to live music most nights of the week for a cover price of around $10 to $15. Here’s a lists of the best venues in Vancouver to catch some live acts from the old staples to the up and coming venues.

Commodore Ballroom

The Commodore is probably the first place that comes to mind for Vancouverites. It’s in a prime spot right on the Granville strip and has been showing live acts since 1929 – Sammy Davis Jr has performed here! A lot of smaller and indie acts come play at the Commodore. Tickets are generally around $20-30. Honestly, I like to go even if I’ve never heard of the band because it’s a great venue with several bars, different levels and big dance floor.

Visit the The Comoodore Ballroom page for more info.

Biltmore Cabaret

The Biltmore is one of Vancouver’s latest and greatest additions to the live music scene. It has bands playing mostly Fridays and Saturdays and sometimes comedy, improv and sketch shows playing during the week. It’s one of the only venues blocks off of main so all the hipsters love it.

The Bourbon

The Bourbon in gastown has live music showing most nights of the week. It has everything from rockability to ska to djs. Their Thursday nights with My!Gay!Husband! are popular where they have attracted international djs to perform.

The Backstage Lounge

The Backstage lounge is a small bar on Granville island that’s a great option for seeing small local bands play – and it’s a nice option if you feel like getting away from the busy Vancouver nightlife.

Visit The Backstage Lounge page for more info.

The Railway Club

The Railway Club is a good place to see local guys perform. Sometimes I go to see a specific band but most of the time you can go there for drinks with friends, pay around $10 and see what shows up for live music.

The Media Club

The Media club is another tried and true place to see live music with several acts coming through the door. They are a smaller venue with a few booths along the side and some rounded tables scattered in the center of the room. The band sits at the back with a bar at the opposite end. It’s a great place to check out any night of the week to see a live show usually under $20.
