The Blarney Stone in Gastown is a long time favorite for the university and college students. The Blarney stone is also the only place playing live music in gastown 7 nights a week. Outside the Blarney Stone, a long line up stretching a couple of blocks is typical for Fiday and Saturday nights. Though, I have to say, the Blarney Stone is worth the wait. Inside it’s a laid back Irish pub where you can show up with flannel and jeans and feel right at home.
The main floor of the Blarney Stone has several tables dispersed around a center dance floor with a stage at the top where the cover band plays all the classic bar rock anthems. The main bar sits a the other end. Upstairs, is a loft with another bar, more tables and a long balcony to peer over and look at the crowd below. They will often have drink specials and provide tvs to view sports games. I have fond memories at my days at the Blarney Stone – an all around good time.
In early 2010, the Blarney Stone underwent some big renovations to open up the bar to the street with large doors, added a bunch of flat screen tvs for watching sports and a new bar. In the summer, the Blarney Stone also has license for a small street patio!
