Guilt and Company is Gastown’s little gem hidden down a set of steps underneath Chill Winston at Gastown’s busiest corner. They describe their entertainment, food and bar as an “experiment” where new and refreshing ideas are being explored in taste and sound.

For instance, on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, they show live “improv music” shows. The concept: 3 musicians (who’ve never met) come together and jam for the first time. Things get even more interesting when different styles are put together!

Guilt and Company also takes that same zest for fun to the kitchen and bar where new and creative antipastos, mustards and cocktails are invented and hand made.

Inside, Guilt and Company has a warm and tavern-like feel. The host and wait staff adorn fedoras, white dress shirts and suspenders – a cool throwback to Gastown early days. Guilt and Co is the perfect place to settle into and relax with friends. Other entertainment includes comedy and a selection of board games.

Five Sixty Club

Five Sixty Club at 560 Seymour Street is one of Vancouver’s most ambitious clubs with 4 floors and a 4 million dollar price tag. What was once the A&B Sound on Seymour now houses Five Sixty Club – a stylish and sophisticated New York style club that tries to infuse some culture into the Vancouver club scene.

Five Sixty Club is an experience you won’t be able to find anywhere else in Vancouver. With several lounges, gallery spaces and bars littered on every floor, you’ll find a unique vibe at every spot. The main room shows live music and Djs 7 days a week with a sizable dance floor and VIP room overhead.

560 Club aims to be different from the typical Vancouver nightclub. The owner Vince Alvaro, says in a article by the Vancouver Sun: “We’re focusing on the arts community as patrons,” he explains. “People involved in film, fashion, music, the visual arts, design, that type of thing.”

The Astoria

The Astoria hotel is a classic Vancouver landmark on Hastings Street. Attached to the hotel, the Astoria pub is an impressive sized pub with a big dance floor, stage, lounge and pool tables. In recent years, with the new attractions of the Strathcona neighbourhood and ambitious promoters, the Astoria has developed a thriving music scene. Today it’s regulars are either east side stragglers or a young hip crowd who come for live music acts and DJs.

Comox Street Bar & Grill

The Comox is a great casual bar tucked away in the West End. It’s a popular hang out with local west end residents who come for a cheap food, pool and a place to watch sports.

Lickerish

Lickerish restaurant and lounge is a chill place have dinner or share tapas over drinks. Located on Davie and just a couple blocks from Granville, Lickerish is close to other bars and nightlife in Vancouver. Unique to Lickerish, though, is it’s old school music and entertainment. Tuesdays, a live Motown group entertains while you enjoy food and drink!

Dover Arms Pub

The Dover Arms Pub is a traditional English Pub on Denman street offering beer and traditional English pub eats (battered fish and chips, burgers, wings, etc).

The Dover Arms is the clubhouse for the Glasglow Rangers and keeps sports fans content with football, soccer, canucks and most all other popular European sporting events on the tvs.

Typically more of an older crowd comes to the Dover Arms Pub for a pint and one weekends, they enjoy music from the cover band. Sundays are especially popular with the Bobcats who play mostly Beetles covers.

Falconetti’s East Side Grill

Falconetti’s is small and friendly neighborhood bar on Commercial drive. The bar opens to a narrow corridor with sets of tall 2-person tables on one side and bar on the other side. Follow to the back and you’ll find a room for bigger groups to enjoy food and live music showcased on a small stage. On canuck nights, Falconetti’s lowers a big screen for everyone to catch the action.

Always exciting news for Vancouverites: Falconetti’s will open a patio in late 2009!

Timbre

Timbre on Commercial Drive is a bright one room restaurant and bar with live bluegrass and jazz music playing at different times during the week. Weekly, Timbre hosts a blues and bluegrass brunch on Sundays at 11am. On Saturdays, Timbre starts it’s live blues music at 3pm.

The King’s Head

The Kings Head is one of the local favorite pubs in Kitsilano, providing a come as you are atmosphere to gather friends for drinks. Often live music plays on a small stage in the center of the bar.

The Kings Head reminds me of an old pirate ship with several levels to it filled with mismatched tables, chairs and upholstered seating. It remains a Kits favorite because it appeals to a low key, non-pretentious bar scene where everyone is welcome and feels at home.

Malone’s Bar and Grill Downtown

Malone’s Bar in Downtown Vancouver is one of the best known Sports Bars in Vancouver. Right in the downtown core and close to office buildings, it’s a “go to” place after work to catch the game. With plenty of pay-per-view tvs scatted around this sizeable bar, a full restaurant menu and great drink specials, Malone’s is a great place to eat and watch sports with buddies.

On the weekends, Malone’s has live music Fridays and Saturdays.
