The Diamond in Gastown is a private and intimate bar and lounge up on the 2nd floor at the corner of Powell and Carrall. Opening in July 2009, it’s one of the newest hip hang-outs in Gastown. Open Wednesday through Sunday, the Diamond serves tapas and one-of-a-kind cocktail concoctions. The Diamond’s dining space is nice and open with the high lofty ceilings and big corridors that are unique to Gastown’s heritage buildings. Most tables are set for two to share plates which makes for a great place to catch up with a friend or to bring a date. Though, if you plan ahead or make a reservation, the Diamond has some room for smaller groups to dine together.

Me and Julio

Me and Julio is a modern Mexican kitchen and cantina located on Commercial Drive. Inside Me and Julio you’ll find a fun a playful room with a bamboo roofed cantina bar off to the side and star shaped lights twinkling all around the room.

Me and Julio serves up a “siesta” and dinner daily with tasty Mexican food and fun cocktails (starting at 3pm). On weekends, it does a full breakfast, lunch and dinner. It always gives me the feeling of being on vacation whenever I go =)

Then, outside, Me and Julio has a small patio if you want to enjoy a warm summer day with a fruity umbrella drink!

Society

Society Dining Lounge is one of the latest hot spots to come to the Yaletown night scene opening in early November 2009. A trendy restaurant and lounge, Society Dining Lounge serves up elegant comfort food attracting appealing to yuppies from all over. Society’s website describes themselves as “A dining lounge where comfortable meets chic, warmth meets undeniable cool, light humour meets dark sensuality.”

Inside, Society Dining Lounge is quaint lounge contained in one small but spacious room with an impressive giant pink chandelier that centers the room. Outside, heated lamps provide a warm patio to enjoy a meal or sip on drinks. Society’s layout is much like Glowba (another popular Yaletown hot spot just a few blocks away) which makes sense – it being the latest addition to the Glowbal Group’s collection of restaurants and lounges.

Society Dining Lounge is a short distance from Davie Street down the cobbled stoned walkway on Hamilton at Drake. Makes for an elegant and classy night out in Yaletown!

Section 3

Section 3 is a trendy lounge in the heart of Yaletown. Offering the latest fusion meals, a large martini menu and stylish decor, Section 3 is a popular destination for a night out. Birthday parties, especially, are popular at Section 3 since it’s one of the only places in Yaletown that can accommodate a large group in more of an upscale setting to a big sports bar.

On weekends, Section 3 is buzzing but during the week, it tends to die down a little – making it a nice place take a date.

Red Card Sports Bar

Red Card Sports Bar in Yaletown is an Italian owned restaurant and bar at on Smithe between Seymour and Richards. Inside, Red Card you find a ginormous bar (by Yaletown standards) with high ceilings, two levels and two separate dinning areas.

Red Card Sports Bar is one of the newest bars added to the Yaletown neighbourhood with it’s doors opening in early December 2009. Red Card Sports is definitely a welcome addition to Yaletown where it’s hard to accommodate big sports nights.

Red Card Sports has a definite sophistication with low lighting and modern furnishing. Here, you can easily impress a date and keep an eye on the game ;)

Malone’s Bar and Grill Downtown

Malone’s Bar in Downtown Vancouver is one of the best known Sports Bars in Vancouver. Right in the downtown core and close to office buildings, it’s a “go to” place after work to catch the game. With plenty of pay-per-view tvs scatted around this sizeable bar, a full restaurant menu and great drink specials, Malone’s is a great place to eat and watch sports with buddies.

On the weekends, Malone’s has live music Fridays and Saturdays.

St Augustine’s

St. Augustine’s on Commercial Drive is a friendly neighbourhood sports bar operated by three home grown owners who grew up around the Commerical Drive area. Inside, St. Augustine’s provides a leisurely place to grab a bite to eat and watch the canucks games, ufc or other popular sporting events.

Inside there are several large tables that accommodate large groups and, unlike most bars in Vancouver, St. Augustine’s lets you reserve a table to secure seats for busy sport nights (including UFC nights)!

The menu at St. Augustine’s has all the favourites – including burgers, pizzas, sandwiches and nachos. Open during the day, you can easily pop in for a quick bite to eat and on weekends, they provide lunch.

Two things that I find most enticing about St. Augustine’s is the beer – they have TWENTY beers on tap!

I should also mention St. Augustine’s has parking on the ROOF! This means you don’t have to worry about nabbing a spot on Commercial drive.
