A Sexy New Club Joins the Granville Strip

photo

Joseph Richard opened it’s doors last week as the latest nightclub to join the Granville Entertainment Strip. A complete 180 from the old stone temple – where Joseph Richard now sits – this club is all class and style.

Just in time for the Vancouver 2010 games, Joseph Richard is offering an after dark series during the games where international DJs will be spinning nightly until 3am.

Joseph Richard will also be the venue for the Australian Team celebrations. The Aussies are going to shut down the club early in the night for private functions the day after competition but will keep the party going when doors open to the public!

UPDATE!
I’m sorry to say that Forum won’t be opening this Sunday for the Super Bowl. Everyone is really bummed – there was an electrical issue in the kitchen that kept them from opening. BUT… they will be doing their soft launch for the next pay-per-view Canucks game on Tuesday at 4:30pm vs Tampa Bay.
Head on down if you’re interested in checking it out!

As for the Super Bowl Party, they are moving it to the Ocean Club. Tickets are $10 from Club Zone!

On The Edge Pub Moves into the Columbia Hotel

photo

New life breathes at the Columbia Hotel with a newly renovated pub called “On The Edge Pub”. The pub gets it’s name being situated on the edge of Gastown at the corner of Columbia and Pender.

One of the newest additions to the Woodwards District, this pub will become a local watering hole for new residents and students coming to the area in 2010.

Though it’s currently open to the public, it’s official opening is Tuesday December 15th so you might want to check it out then!

Before then, on the Edge will be attracting a crowd Saturday for the December 12th UFC fight between BJ Penn and Diego Sanchez. With the craziness downtown, this might be a good option to secure a table and chairs to catch the fight ;)

Check out photos and more details here: On the Edge Pub

A Red Card for Yaletown

photo

Last night, Red Card Sports Bar opened it’s doors in Yaletown. I’ve been going past this place for weeks waiting on the Grad Opening and was first shocked to find out how HUGE this place is! Red Card will be a great sports option for busy nights and a place to keep in mind if you want to accommodate a large group.

And, of course, I took some pics so check em out!

A New Hub in Yaletown

photo

The newly opened Hub Restaurant and Bar replaces the old Brown’s Restaurant in Yaletown. With the same owner, same atmosphere, Hub holds onto much of the Brown’s comfort and style but now offers more in “innovative comfort food”.

The Keg In Yaletown

A new 3-storey Keg opened in Yaletown August 10th at the corner of Mainland and Nelson. The best part about this Keg: a rooftop patio equipped with heaters, fireplaces and views of false creek!

Fortune Sound Club in Chinatown

photo

An old and infamous Chinese restaurant in Chinatown has now been transformed into the hottest new club in town. Touted on innovative & conscious design and the best sound in North America, this looks to be a promising venue for music aficionados.

Saturday nights with Rob Rizk includes “Live elements including vocalists, dancers, and percussionists mix it up on the main stage to create dadvertisialogue with the sweaty, pulsating crowd.”

Check their club links for current events and announcement of the official grand opening in September.

(Best homepage ever with the Japanese Dancing Elvis’!!!)

5 New Bars in Vancouver!

After all the dust has settled after months of Skytrain construction, I had a chance to check out some new bars that have popped up on Granville Street. If you’re in the mood for something new, give these guys a go…

The Edge Cafe
the-edge-cafe
A new bar and – *drum-roll* – patio! The Edge Cafe and Social House is right at the corner of Helmecken and Granville. Great space to accommodate large groups.

The Refinery
the-refinery
An upscale dine and place up on the 2nd floor on Granville. This place is gorgeous inside and a quaint place to sip on a glass.

Twisted Fork
twisted-fork

Another quaint place to enjoy a cocktail with a close friend – this place also looks to have a great menu for breaksfast, lunch ad dinner.
More Info

Venue
venue
Along with all the street construction, a tun of construction went on inside the old Plaza club – now “Venue”. It’s image now appeals to the hipster crowd and, the exciting part, it’s another live music venue!

G Sports Bar
g-sports-bar
Not as *new* as the other guys on the list but I thought I’d give a shout out to this bar because it’s a great casual place to kick back and watch some sports (UFC!). I was also extremely impressed a few months back with the great service on a cannucks night :)
